Ukulele Lessons

at Market Street Music Conservatory

Instructors:

(AGES FIVE AND UP)

Overview

Our ukulele instructors teach folk, country, pop, and rock-n-roll styles — and classical too. Beginners work on chords, tablature, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Each lesson will challenge you with a new technique or music theory, and ends with something fun – such as your favorite riff or song. We employ a variety of ukulele method books, online resources, and apps based on student needs and preferences, and to assist in education. The ukulele is also a great instrument for young students to begin with, and it can act as a gateway to other instruments, specifically the guitar

What’s the #1 reason to study ukulele at Market Street?

Our ukulele instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student's favorite type of music. Whether you're playing in local bands, a seven year old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to the ukulele after many years, we’ll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

What styles of ukulele do you teach?

We teach all styles from folk to country, pop and rock-n-roll styles.

What will I learn from ukulele lessons at the Conservatory?

Beginner ukulele students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Our instructors balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson presents a new technical challenges or theory concept, and ends with something fun, such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of ukulele method books, online resources, and apps to assist in education. We encourage students to bring their smartphone or tablet to record or to use helpful apps that the teacher may recommend. Please check with your instructor about needed materials for your lesson.

Do I need to purchase a ukulele to learn the instrument?

Students will need to purchase their own instrument for studying ukulele. If you currently are considering a ukulele purchase and need recommendations, our instructors are happy to help! You can email Corryne about recommendations anytime! We also do an inspection of your instrument at the first consultation (to check for tuning issues, or if the ukulele needs new strings, etc.).
