If you've always wanted to hone your skills as a classical, opera, rock, pop, country, musical theatre, jazz, gospel, or R&B singer, Market Street Music Conservatory has the voice teacher for you! Our voice faculty utilizes classic techniques and training to get you sounding your absolute best! Whether you're preparing for an audition, a college music program, or just singing for fun, Market Street is the place for you! Each week, students are led through exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, enunciation and more. Our educators are classically trained and have experience in several genres of vocal performance. Each student will set goals with their teacher, either to sound like their favorite recording artist, or to develop their own unique voice.

What’s the #1 reason to study voice at Market Street?

In private lessons, our voice instructors work with each student and parent on a personal level to craft a lesson plan that fits the student's individual needs and favorite type of music. Whether you’re a singer in a band, a seven year old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to singing after many years, our friendly, dedicated teachers will share their love of popular music and help you set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

What styles of singing do you teach?

Our voice teachers are trained in multiple genres of singing... Anywhere from classical, opera, rock, and pop, to musical theatre, country, jazz, gospel, or R&B.

What will I learn from voice lessons at the Conservatory?

Voice students spend time each week singing exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. All voice students set goals with their teacher to work on their overall goals as a vocalist.

Our voice department creates a space for our students to grow as musicians, and to find their voice. We are here to help you develop the skills you need to sing confidently no matter what the musical genre. We’d love for you to begin or continue your singing journey here at Market Street Music Conservatory.

Rachel Scholes

Voice with

Rachel Scholes has been involved in music since the age of five, when she began taking piano lessons. As a child, she sang in the church choir and played the clarinet in band. She also was involved in musicals and choir in high school. Rachel started teaching piano lessons in high school, after shadowing and assisting her own piano teacher.

It was this teacher who heard Rachel sing, during a piano recital rehearsal, and urged Rachel to take voice lessons. Rachel began taking voice lessons in preparation for college scholarship auditions. She found that she was passionate about singing! She graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a bachelor’s degree in music education, in 2003.

Rachel also teaches Piano, Pre-Piano, and Voice at Market Street Music Conservatory.
